What is LED light therapy

We are very excited to announce that we are now offering low level LED light therapy at our beauty bar! This technology is some of the most advanced technology when it comes to skin care. LED light therapy was originally developed by NASA for astronauts who became injured or ill on long-term space missions. It was found to produce cell rejuvenation in a climate in which they were not being exposed to the right kinds of light. Today low-level-light therapy is used as a safe UV-free and natural method of treating a variety of skin and pain conditions such as acne, anti-aging, and pain. The treatment is non-invasive, painless, requires no recovery time, and can be used on all skin types. It’s the application of specific wavelengths of light energy to tissue to obtain therapeutic benefits. The energy delivered is then used to improve cellular performance. Low-level light therapy can be delivered through light emitting diode (LED) devices.

In the same way that plants use chlorophyll to convert sunlight into plant tissue, low level LED light therapy utilizing specific, proven wavelengths of light can trigger a natural biostimulatory effect in human tissue. Research has shown that phototherapy can increase circulation, accelerate tissue repair, kill acne bacteria, decrease inflammation, improve skin tone, texture and clarity, as well as ease muscle and joint pain, stiffness, spasm, and arthritis. Research indicates that cells absorb particles of light (photons) and transform their energy into adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the form of energy that cells utilize. The resulting elevation of ATP is then used to power metabolic processes; synthesize DNA, RNA, proteins, enzymes, and other products needed to repair or regenerate cell components; foster mitosis or cell proliferation; and restore homeostasis. Simply put, the LED light source provides compromised cells with added energy so the cells performance is enhanced. For example, fibroblast cells will increase collagen and elastic production in connective tissue.

What to look for in a primer

As a lover of makeup I am always looking for products that not only give me the desired look, but also help or benefit my skin. As we all know our skin is our largest organ and it absorbs what we put on it. This means not only your moisturizing lotion, but also your makeup. one way to help protect your skin, as well as elongate your makeup wear AND have a more flawless finish is to use a makeup primer. I used to never wear primers, I always felt like they broke me out or did basically nothing for my makeup routine. This was of course until I did a little bit more digging into the world of primers. I learned that many primers contain pore blocking products such as silicon or parabens, as well as drying agents like talc. These products are not good for your skin and can clog or irritate your pores. So it is super important to make sure you are also reading the ingredients of the primers you are looking at. Not everyone will be affected the same way, and this is because everyones skin type is different, so knowing your skin type is the first step in choosing which primer is right for you. I suggest going into my favourite store tephra and consulting one of their colour consultants. Explain what kind of skin you have and narrow down any products you want to try, as well as explaining what ingredients you want to avoid. From there they should be able to direct you to all of the primers you could possibly  try out. I would also highly suggest taking home a few samples of primers and giving them try with your makeup. Sometimes not all makeup works well together and you will want to make sure before you fork out al your hard earned money it is on a product that will actually work with products you already have.

 

Some primers I personally have found and liked are the Hourglass “Veil Mineral Primer” and the Too Faced “Hangover Replenishing Face Primer”.

Eyelash Extension Aftercare

We all love to get beautiful fluffy lash extensions, but what we don’t love is when they fall out fast! Here are some tips to help make your lashes last longer, as well as keeping your natural lash line healthy!

Do not get your lashes wet for at least 24 hours (48 hours is recommended)

After 48 hours be sure to wash your lashes with lash shampoo (once per day)

During the first 24 hours avoid steam or heat around your lashes (ie. sauna, hot yoga)

Be sure to use oil free products around your eyes (oil breaks down the adhesive)

Avoid waterproof/ oil based beauty products around your eyes

Do not curl your lashes with an eyelash curler (this could damage your real lashes as well as the extensions)

We recommend scheduling fills every 2-3 weeks to keep your eyelash extensions looking full and beautiful, as well to make sure your real lashes are healthy!

Micoblading Aftercare

  • Always wash your hands with soap and warm water prior to applying ointments
  • If washing your brows is absolutely necessary, dampened, sterilized gauze and pat NOT rub your brows
  • Avoid cosmetics on your brows and apply the provided ointment 2-3 times daily; excessive salt or water can increase swelling

During the Six Week Healing Process (unless otherwise stated)

Do

Keep brows moistened with A&D ointment for 5 days minimum

Do Not

  • Do not use Retin A or glycolic acids, peroxide or Neosporin
  • Do not get your brows wet for 7 days
  • Avoid sweating or tanning for 7 days
  • Do not pick at any dry flaky areas during the healing process

After Six Weeks

Continue to minimize sun exposure. A moisturizer with an SPF of at least 15 is recommended to protect pigment from the sun’s rays. Lasers on treated areas can cause the pigment to turn black and swell. Exfoliating & skin lightening products (chemical peels, alpha & beta hydroxy acids, vitamin A cream, aka retin A) promote pigment loss, so these products should be avoided on the treated area. If having an MRI, advise the health care worker of any permanent makeup procedures.
